2010 Asia Pacific Championship Report Category: General
Read on for details about our great results from WALA sailors."Team WA" finished up well on the last day at the Asia Pacific Champs in Pattaya, Thailand, taking out 2 Masters titles and a podium in the Radials.
Klaus Schmectig finished 2nd in the GM div (Radial) and was top placed Australian overall (16th). http://www.laserthailand.org/data/2010%20AP/Result%20RadFriday%2012Mar10.htm
Stefan Kurys-Romer won the GM div (Laser) and was 8th overall. Colin Dibb won the Masters and was 5th overall. http://www.laserthailand.org/data/2010%20AP/Resutl%20Std%20Friday%2012Mar10.htm
Sailing conditions were perfect with all 10 races completed. The first 5 races were sailed in 12-15 knot seabreezes (SSW) with strong tides and the rest in lighter northerlies. A very strong MAS team in both the Radials and Lasers dominated the podiums but the overall title in the Lasers went to Keerat Bualong of Thailand. 3 of the top 4 sailors have moved up to the Laser after finishing in the top ten at the 2009 Radial Youth World Championships in Japan. Harrithammry Hairudin who was 2nd, is the 2009 Radial Youth World Champion!
The Royal Varuna Yacht Club is going all out to make sure that the 4.7 Worlds in a few weeks time is going to be fantastic so our 4.7 team has something to look forward too. Have fun (we did)!
